Swimming With Van Gogh
A play about sex and boundaries in love and art. What and where are the limits of the creative spirit? Set in a lighthouse on the shores of Lake Michigan, Claire, a mid-career painter fights being pigeonholed as a “woman’s perspective painter” – Georgia O’Keefe’s complaint her entire career. At odds with this goal of breaking sexual category, is the main character’s struggle with her own dwindling sexual appeal. Her male counter-part is sleeping with a 26-year-old; she is invisible to the world as a woman of a certain age. Enter her new 24 year old assistant – “a walking ad for…well…something illegal.”
